Welcome, Mike! Your Book, Dangerous Waters, sounds absolutely awesome. Can you tell us the story behind that intriguing title?

Dangerous Waters is set in Grand Bank, Newfoundland on the easternmost tip of Canada. It is a fishing village on the Atlantic Ocean and while many days the waters are calm and quiet, a storm can blow in at any time. Then, those smooth ocean waters become deadly dangerous. In the story, Dangerous Waters, Sgt. Windflower and his friends must navigate some stormy seas on the water and on land in order to solve some serious crimes and restore the peace and quiet of this sleepy little community.

Can you tell us more about your main characters?

The main characters are Sgt. Winston Windflower, a Canadian Mountie, who is in the process of changing careers, or at least thinking about it. His main sidekick is Corporal Eddie Tizzard, a local boy who also joined the Mounties. And of course, Windflower's family. His wife, Sheila Hillier who used to be the Mayor of Grand Bank, two daughters Amelia Louise and Stella, and Lady the collie and Molly, the cat.

What part was the most exciting to write about?

I always joke that The End is the best part of a book for an author. But I actually enjoy all of it. Maybe that's because I don't have a plot or an outline. So I have to finish the book so that I know how it will end. Writing is an act of creation and when I am writing it is like I am in another world. I love that feeling so I keep writing.

Where does this story take place and why did you choose that location?

Somehow, before I’d even written the first Sgt. Windflower Mystery, I knew that the story would be set in Newfoundland, where I was born. I had no idea what kind of book it would be and certainly no clues about characters or plot development. But I knew that even though I hadn’t lived there for twenty-five years, I wanted to have the story set in Newfoundland.

If you’ve ever visited there, you know the appeal of Canada’s newest province. It is relatively small, lightly populated and very friendly. I thought that my book (I didn’t know it would be a series) would be set in St. John’s, the capital city. That’s my hometown and a place I know well. But while Sgt. Windflower does visit St. John’s occasionally, almost all of the series is set in the small community of Grand Bank on the southeast coast of the island.

What's next for you?

I am happily promoting Dangerous Waters and having tons of fun doing that. I have a new Sgt. Windflower book getting ready for editing and I am releasing a new book of Christmas stories in October, just in time for Christmas. Watch out for Memories and Mysteries 2: Christmas in Newfoundland.
