What was the inspiration behind Your Mid-Career GPS? What sparked the initial idea?

My inspiration behind Your Mid-Career GPS was to provide a resource for mid-career professionals who haven't looked for a job for a while or for those who are overwhelmed by the entire process. I was inspired by my clients and connections who shared their mid-career journeys. Their common theme or pain point is that they feel "stuck" or unsure how to navigate out of their current situation. I wrote this book for them to have one resource to help them get unstuck and start taking action toward whatever is professionally next for them.

Changing careers can be scary. Can you give us a pep talk?

As a mid-career professional, you have a lot of experience that someone wants. Your experiences make you a valuable talent for any company looking for someone with your skills and background. You need to find each other. Lean into your value and skills. Start having conversations with people who might be looking for someone like you. Right now, there are jobs out there - advertised and not. Be resilient. We work because our skills are there to HELP people. Find who you want to help and go after that job.

Can you give us some interview tips?

Practice! Interviewing is a skill, and you can't walk into an interview and think you can get the job without doing your homework and research. Learn as much as you can about the company. Know how to tell your story - better than anyone else - but do it from a place of value and service. Showcase how you can help that company, as evidenced by what they ask in the job description. And lastly, don't talk too long. Monitor your time. Interviews are conversations. Let there be a natural dialogue between you and the interviewer(s). Take time to build the relationship so you both can determine whether or not you are a good fit for each other.

How do you want your readers to come away after reading your book?

Informed, motivated, and empowered. Your Mid-Career GPS is a book that will help you get out of your own way and take little steps toward creating whatever is next for you and your career. There are over 30 journal prompts in my book to help you think and reflect about where your career is headed and what you want this next stage to be. You are exactly what a company is looking for right now. Just find them.

Do you have other books?

I do. My first book is called "SHOW UP - Six Strategies to Lead a More Energetic and Impactful Career." The book is part memoir and part tactical guide to navigating your life and career. My #SHOWUP6Strategies are there to help you look at your value in life and career differently because of how you choose to SHOW UP in any circumstance. I'm humbled and honored about how well that book has been received and how it has helped people.
